LOS ANGELES (USA Today) -- Emmy voters rewarded fresh blood in nominations Thursday, offering new series Modern Family, Glee, The Good Wife along with Nurse Jackie and True Blood their first shot at top trophies.

This year half of the nominated series were on cable, slightly less than last year's crop: Comedy series contenders were ABC's Family, Fox's Glee, Showtime's Jackie, HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm and perennial NBC favorites The Office and 30 Rock, last year's winner.

Top-drama honorees were AMC's Breaking Bad and two-time winner Mad Men, ABC's Lost, CBS' The Good Wife, HBO's True Blood and Showtime's Dexter. Vampire drama Blood is also a first-time nominee.

Glee's Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison were nominated as lead comedy actors, Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer won nods in supporting categories, as did five Family actors: Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell.

First-time drama nominees include Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights, Wife's Julianna Margulies, Mad Men's January Jones and Lost's Matthew Fox.

Though HBO continued to dominate with 101 nominations and has four movie or miniseries contenders in The Pacific, Temple Grandin, You Don't Know Jack and The Special Relationship, it has far fewer nods in leading categories.
