ATLANTA -- The popcorn, hot dogs and beers at your favorite team's stadium or arena may not give much reason to cheer.

ESPN's "Outside the Lines" published a report Monday that looked into health department inspection reports on the 107 stadiums used by America's major sports teams. The study -- "What's Lurking in Your Stadium Food?" -- found that at 30 of the sports arenas (28 percent overall), more than half of the concession stands or restaurants were cited for at least one critical or major health violation. These are issues that could get fans sick or that could lead to death.

Atlanta's venues did better than most around the country, but the findings give pause:

Philips Arena -- 35 percent of vendors were found to have critical violations. "At a couple of locations, inspectors found food not being protected from contamination", according to ESPN.

Georgia Dome -- 32 percent of vendors were found to have critical violations. "Inspectors found several employees not properly washing hands or without access to adequate hand-washing facilities," ESPN reported.

Turner Field -- 19 percent of vendors were found to have critical violations. "Inspectors found bacterial growth on a ketchup dispenser and asked that it be thrown out", ESPN said.
